Quality in China
Once again I am here writing about quality of manufacturing through China.
I see more than most first hand the problems this causes as I spend half my time checking factories for different customers all over the country and I have been doing this for more than 6 years.
Its the al too familiar sound of the manager welcoming you and explaining their quality is the best and you cant get better when in reality you find they have well and truly forgotten to even look at the finished product.
It would be easy to ramble on and give examples but of problems with what I see but today I am being positive. I try very hard to check and find every fault when I visit a factory within respect to what the customer wants and more often than not what the customer pays for. You cant pay for peanuts and want a Ferrari. But a finished product with reasonably acceptable standards should always apply.
The first step is narrowing down the factories that send out shoddy rubbish time and again, this is also the hardest part. How to tell?? there really is no way the samples can often be great to the point they spent a huge amount of time on the samples but no time on the actual product.
My advice is always the same here.
1. know your product and know what you want
2. write everything down and have a contract with it all in the contract. if you want something done a specific way you need to write it in the contract. e.g. all corners must be smooth with no sharp edges. Only this way will you get what your after and have an avenue to complain if not right.
3. check the factory and what else they are making for others
4. get samples more than one is best
5. inspect before completion
6. inspect before shipping
7. keep your fingers crossed and hope ( because even with the best plans things go wrong)
